Sonja began her career in finance as a certified Technical Analyst for a premier wealth management team at Smith Barney. While raising her two children, she shifted her focus to community leadership, teaching at Embry Hills United Methodist Church and playing a pivotal role in the successful movement to incorporate the City of Tucker.
Following incorporation, Sonja joined the City of Tucker staff as the City-Community Liaison. Her ability to bridge the gap between residents and government as well as create clear communications led to her current role leading the Communications Department as Director, where she serves as a trusted advisor to city management and elected officials.
With her children now in their teens, Sonja is ready to expand her service to the students of DeKalb County District 4. She brings a decade of experience as a DCSD parent and volunteer, a lifetime of community service, and a deep understanding of how local government can work effectively for its residents. Sonja is ready to leverage her unique background in finance and municipal government to ensure a brighter future for every student in DeKalb County.
